Balance
A lot of times when we think about balance, we picture tight-rope style precision where a momentary lapse of focus can result in demise. Yikes! But what if, instead, we picture surfboard balance? A constant little micro-shifting to try to stay up right, with a refreshing splash in the water when things don’t go as planned. In Chinese Medicine, this idea of balance is seen in the ever changing relationship between yin and yang. The goal is overall balance, but that doesn’t mean consistently equal parts. Night is Yin, Day is Yang. Winter is Yin, Summer is Yang. Femininity is Yin, Masculinity is Yang. None of these things exist without their counterpart. Remembering this concept is helpful when bringing balance to our lives. It’s not about perfection, it’s about the flow, and the awareness of the constant changes in our lives.
