New at Indigo: Functional Medicine Doctor Bobbie Sinha MD

We’re so excited to add a Functional Medicine Doctor to our team! Meet Dr. Bobbie Sinha, Certified Internal Medicine Physician + Certified Functional Medicine Provider. We couldn't be happier to welcome Dr. Sinha to our team so that no stone is left unturned in getting to the root of your symptoms and health issues. 

Who do you most love to work with?

I really love working with anyone who is trying to get to the root cause of health issues, especially chronic diseases, autoimmune and cardiometabolic issues like diabetes. I particularly love  love working with women between 35-50, entering the perimenopausal age. It’s been such a misunderstood life phase and there’s a lot we can do to support women, mind, body and soul. 

How do you define what you do?

I’m an MD certified in functional medicine. My work with patients is a crossover of a lot of different offerings, and we’ll talk about lifestyle and nutrition. Most of all what makes my work unique is that I get to spend a lot of time with my patients! We aren’t in a rush, I can really listen and see you as a whole person. While I love functional medicine, I’m not anti-conventional medicine. I believe in utilizing many different modalities to achieve optimal wellness. It’s why I’m so excited to be part of the Indigo team. 

If you were struggling with weight gain, insomnia, hot flashes, hormonal shifts in the perimenopausal world where would you start?  

This really depends on the individual. I want to know your full wellness and health history, including what you’re eating, lifestyle and stress factors, personal preferences, and so much more. We do have the potential to discuss HRT and supplements, but I find women are more successful if they first focus on diet, lifestyle, and reducing alcohol intake. I’m not a doctor who will give you 100 supplements, there is a lot we can do aside from that. And sometimes just feeling heard and listened to by a practitioner can reduce psychological stress and many symptoms. 

How do you see yourself working with the rest of the team at Indigo?

I love the collaborative care approach. We can support your stress and sleep through acupuncture, your energy and inflammation through nutrition, your mood and anxiety levels through therapy, your fitness through personal training and so much more. 

What made you want to pivot and switch gears from hospital into functional medicine?
 

Having a family! I realized how important work-life balance is and wanted to spend time with my family. I was working as a pulmonologist with asthma patients, and I felt frustrated by what I could offer them.  Since I know the Indigo patients and clients will understand it, I’ll also say it just that I wasn't in alignment anymore. I didn’t feel fulfilled. Now I am so excited to feel fully in my purpose and to offer my approach through Indigo.I’d also be happy to share some of my personal health backstory — I had trouble getting pregnant. I thought I was healthy but I wasn’t, I was working at a hospital full time and so burnt out and stressed. So I began to focus on nutrition. I learned that food affects everything! I also focused on decreasing stress — I learned to slow down and suddenly I realized how tired I actually was.

When you’re not supporting patients in their healing, what are you up to?  

You can find me spending time with our family. Our 2 girls are 8 and 10 now, and we have a 1 year old dog named Odie. We live in Greenwich and I love to be outdoors, anything active, walking the dog, water sports, being at the beach.  I also love reading. My favorite book this year is The Berry Pickers by Amanda Peters for fiction (from 2023), and I’m currently reading All Fours by Miranda July--a lot to talk about there! For nonfiction a great read or listen is Breath: The New Science of a Lost Art by James Nestor -it's from 2020.
