Just Breathe

Friendly little reminder to BREATHE! If life’s been feeling a little intense, chaotic, uncertain or overwhelming, let me assure you: you are NOT alone! It seems to be a universal theme lately (or at least for loads of people in my life) and it has lots of us bracing for whatever is coming next.

One of the things we do when we are bracing is hold out breath! I definitely notice that I do this when I’m stressed, and there are some fascinating biological reasons that we do this, but it really only makes things worse! So when you’re feeling overwhelmed, focus on your breathing. If you notice you’re holding your breath or taking short shallow breaths (another physiological stress response), start mindful breathing! Try to make your exhales last as long or longer than your inhales, which tells your nervous system that you’re safe. 💫
