Are Instagram and TikTok Wellness Products Worth the Hype?

We field tons of questions from patients and clients on wellness products from social media. So today we're telling you the truth about which ones are worth the hype and which ones you can keep on swiping by. Here are 8 of our most asked about products and our honest thoughts.

  • ARMRA Colostrum: This is everywhere, and remember: a big marketing spend doesn’t always mean quality. But actually, we like ARMRA for a mild to mid-level gut immune boost.  We find it can help keep parents of young kids or frequent jet-setters from getting sick all the time. But, if you need more in depth gut support and healing, this is not our top product pick. We'd recommend you meet with our nutrition team for a GI Map and personalized supplement plan.  And we don't recommend ARMRA if you're sensitive to dairy.

  • Arrae 'bloat': The ingredients including ginger and dandelion are fine for occasional post-meal bloat, but if you're chronically bloated, gassy or distended, that's not normal and this won't heal the root cause. Instead of spending lots of money on Instagram ads, we recommend you dig deeper with our team of root cause practitioners.

  • Athletic Greens: We like greens powders for some of our patients and clients, but if you're going to use greens powder daily, make sure it's organic. We like the brands Organifi and Garden of Life's Perfect Greens.

  • LMNT: we love electrolytes, especially in mid summer and if you're a frequent exerciser. We like LMNT but find the flavor and amount of salt can be too much for some tastebuds and bodies. Our favorite alternative with far less salt is Needed Hydration Support.

  • Four Sigmatic Mushroom Coffee: We love medicinal mushroom coffees! They're a great way to cut caffeine but still get an energy and focus boost. We give Four Sigmatic's half caf coffee with L-theanine + Cordyceps a thumbs up.

  • Nutrafol: we hear surprisingly good things about Nutrafol when taken consistently and long term (6-12 months) for hair regrowth. We recommend this in conjunction with our Rosemary Hair Oil. Research shows rosemary oil can improve hair growth, texture and thickness in just 3 months, with results comparative to Rogaine.

  • Ritual multivitamins: we love a good multivitamin as a safety net. Ritual multi and prenatal products aren't our top picks as they're lacking and low on many micronutrients including vitamin A, vitamin C and zinc. The prenatal is missing choline, a really important nutrient for pregnancy. Browse our Fullscript dispensary for our favorite picks instead.

  • Sakara Meal Delivery: Some busy weeks require meal support, so we like having options available for clients. When it comes to Sakara, we find many people need to supplement it with more protein, and the raw veggie focus isn't great for everyone's digestion. Our favorite CT local meal delivery is Kinney Lane.

In general, we recommend you don't just buy because you see a lot of ads or influencers promoting an item. But, occasionally, even we are excited about and impressed by new products we see on social media!
