Sleep!

SLEEP! Such a precious thing. Are you waking between 1am-3am each night? We’re seeing a lot of that lately.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine the idea of the “body clock” may help you to understand what is going on. Each organ is associated with a different hour in the day, and waking between the Liver’s hours of 1am-3am are the can be tied to Liver Qi Stagnation.

So what does this mean? Our Qi (not we’ll translated into English but similar to the idea of life force/ energy) gets stagnated with improper diet, too much alcohol, lack of exercise, emotional stress and not enough sleep. Our Liver is in charge of keeping Qi moving smoothly, so when it gets jammed up, we feel irritable, anxious, snappy and have trouble sleeping.

If this sounds like you, maybe plan a fun Monday - Friday mocktail week and pair that with making sure you’re eating at least three veggies per day. Or try subbing your morning coffee for some green tea a few days this week. Frustrating and maybe a little heated after a political argument you had with a family member? Blow off some steam by taking a nice bike ride and getting some exercise.

And if none of that seems to be working, come on in for some acu 😉
