Information Vs. Infearmation

It should come as no surprise that one of the things we value most at Indigo is INFORMATION. We think it’s the key to true women’s health and healing, and we find that sadly so many of us are really uninformed about what’s happening in our bodies. Information truly is power, and the more we understand about our own health and bodies, the better decisions we can make.

But, like most things in life, information can be a double edged sword, especially when knowledge is wrapped up in a bow of fear, and sadly, fear sells products so it’s a commonly used marketing technique these days.

If you read some information that strikes the cord of fear in your gut, ask yourself if there’s a product or idea being marketed. If there is, take that information with a grain of salt. We see this with things like birth control detoxes, special diets (keto, anyone?) courses designed to help you avoid birth defects in your future children (WTF) and even in the covid vaccine conversation. There are pros and cons to just about everything in life, and it’s up to each of us individually to make the right decision for ourselves, but we can’t do that without solid, unbiased, and factually correct information, not inFEARmation.

Out tips:
Limit the noise and pick sources that you trust and that don’t make you feel afraid or confused. If a product is being sold, remember the role that fear plays in marketing. Trust your own intuition, and work with providers who value your intuition, too. Remember that informed consent means being provided with ALL the pertinent information, good and bad, and weighing risks and benefits before making a decision about what’s best for you.
