Massage is Medicine + How to Give Back this Holiday Season
DATE: December 10th
SEASON: Fall

adopt an angel family with domus kids

Hi Friend,

The holiday season is upon us and we're feeling festive at Indigo! We had our team holiday party last weekend and loved hanging with our Indigo family. In the spirit of the holidays, we also think it's important to give back whenever possible. This month, as part of our Indigo In Community, we're excited to highlight the work of friends at DOMUS.

Adopt an angel family through DOMUS in Stamford and provide essentials and gifts this holiday season. They are in need of 10 more family sponsors between now and next Wednesday. Please reach out to Melissa Bramble: MBramble@domuskids.org or (203)-219-1617 to sponsor a family.

massage is medicine

If you need a moment to slow down, come visit our Indigo offices for a treatment or a sauna session. We’d love to support your nervous system and mood this holiday season. And on that note: Today our massage therapist Kiah Liotta is sharing all about how sports massage can help pain, tension, and stress.

I work with all different clients at Indigo, and a common misconception is that massage is just for relaxation. While I hope you leave your sessions blissed out, the reality is, it can help you with so much more. Massage is medicine!

Here are 7 ways a sports massage can help:

  1. Pain Relief: Sports massage provides relief from chronic pain, recent injuries, and overuse/stress related tension. It reduces inflammation in the area of pain and increasing endorphin production, drastically improving comfort.
  2. Mental Relaxation: Beyond physical benefits, massage can lower stress levels, which is a big factor in most general muscle tension cases. More ease and less pain in day to day life can lead to overall feelings of well-being!
  3. Increased circulation: Sports massage stimulates blood flow through specific techniques like trigger point therapy, and gentle deep friction. This helps deliver oxygen and nutrients to muscles more directly.
  4. Improved flexibility and range of motion in joints: Regular massages will  loosen tight muscles, increase range of motion in joints so they feel less stuck, and improve overall flexibility.
  5. Reduction in Muscle Tension: By targeting specific areas of the body, sports massage alleviates muscle knots and tension in your muscles and fascia, which will give you a feeling of having more space and ease when you move your body.
  6. Encourages Muscle Recovery: Massage helps to clear metabolic waste (like lactic acid) from muscles, which helps you recover after exercise. This allows you to train more efficiently.
  7. Injury Prevention: By identifying and addressing muscle imbalances or misalignment in the body. sports massage can prevent injuries before they occur, helping to maintain long-term physical health.

Kiah provides personalized sports massages tailored to your specific areas of pain and tension that need extra care. She incorporates trigger point therapy, fascia and neuromuscular techniques, and deep tissue massage, seamlessly blending these methods into a soothing flow to help calm your nervous system.
