Hi Friend,

We hope you're taking care of yourself. This election season has been an emotional time, and now that it’s over, you may find yourself processing a mix of difficult feelings. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, disappointed, heartbroken, or simply confused, know that we see you, and we’re here to support you. If this message doesn’t resonate with you, feel free to keep scrolling today.

Our therapists, Julianne Furniss-Green and Jessica Wisnieski, have put together their tips on how to navigate forward when emotions are running high and things feel uncertain.

therapists tips for feeling the feels

Our therapists are no strangers to difficult feelings. They help clients manage grief, transition, heartbreak, loss, and so much more. Here are some of their top tips to put into action whenever you need.

  • Move! Move your body as much as feels comfortable, stretch, walk, yoga… even if it is just a few minutes in your home.
  • Seek comfort: Do the things that feel comfortable to you. While it is nice out don’t put pressure on yourself to enjoy the sun, if you need to hibernate, that is okay.
  • Phone a friend: bonus points if it’s a “walk and talk” phone call
  • Reorganize something: a drawer, a closet, your car. Seeking slivers of order can be helpful amongst the chaos
  • Activate your senses: Combat numbness by dropping back into your body and notice the things you can:
    • Touch- put your feet in the grass or in water (even just your bath tub)
    • See- watch the sunset or get out in nature
    • Hear- listen to music
    • Taste- drink a warm or cold drink
    • Smell- light a candle or cook a yummy meal
