Let’s Hear It For Your Lungs
In Chinese Medicine, the Lungs are the organs that relate to the season of fall. In addition to bringing in the air we breathe, the Lungs also control the skin and are in charge of keeping skin moist. Grief and sadness are the emotions attributed to the Lungs, and it’s why the fall can be a particularly sad time for many people. These emotions can deplete Lung Qi, explaining why tightness in the chest occurs during periods of sorrow.
To support your Lungs during the seasonal change, make sure to stay hydrated, use a humidifier if necessary, and eat foods that nourish the lungs like pears and cauliflower. (Notice a resemblance to the organ?)
PS. Why am I capitalizing Lungs? This helps to signify that the organs I am talking about differ slightly from what we know about the biomedical counterpart.
